Jan Fransoo is awarded NWO funding for new research line on nanostores in megacities
February 5, 2013
Professor Jan Fransoo (Industrial Engineering) has received a grant of 250,000 euros from the Netherlands Science Foundation NWO for a project he will conduct with colleagues at Tsinghua University (China) on retail distribution to very small stores in very large cities. It is estimated about 50 million stores serve billions of consumers in emerging markets. Reaching out to those stores in terms channel management and distribution operations, is one of the main new supply chain challenges that affect the performance of consumer goods companies, the congestion in these cities, and the affordability of products to low-income consumers. In the study, Fransoo and his colleagues will conduct both empirical and modeling work to better understand and improve these retail supply chains.
