VENI grant from NWO for Joachim Arts

Joachim Arts received a VENI grant from NWO for his proposal entitled: 'Learning from degradation data: When to shut down public services?' NWO veni grants are 'targeted at outstanding researchers who have recently obtained their PhD. They are at the start of their scientific career and display a striking talent for scientific research.'  A short research description: unexpected failures of MRI-scanners, aircraft and other capital assets, are unsafe and expensive. On July 6th 2016, on behalf of her co-authors, Maryam SteadieSeifi received the certificate and a 1000 Euro award for 'EJOR best review paper of 2016” at EURO2016 conference in Poznan. The award was handed over by Prof. José Fernando Oliveira and Prof. Julius Žilinskas. Among more than 1100 published papers between 2013 and 2014 in European Journal of Operations Research (EJOR), the 2016 jury, chaired by Professor Horst Hamacher, have chosen three papers as winners in three categories. Retailers, fresh suppliers and academics gathered to increase sales and to reduce food waste.

On June 1, 2016, more than 50 retailers, fresh suppliers and academics gathered at the ‘Sell More, Waste Less’ workshop to discuss new findings on how to improve the performance of the supply chain for fresh products. Fresh products include products like fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, dairy, bakery as wel as convenience products like ready-to-cook vegetables and ready-made meals. This workshop has been organised by the ECR Community Shrink and OSA group in cooperation with Eindhoven University of Technology.

Tugce Martagan and her collaborators won the 2016 POMS Applied Research Challenge

Tugce Martagan and her research team from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Aldevron received the first prize in the 2016 POMS Applied Research Challenge (POMS ARC) for their work on biomanufacturing operations. Dr. Martagan received the first prize from Professor Chris Tang (UCLA Anderson School of Management) in the award ceremony held at the 2016 POMS Conference in Orlando, Florida. The POMS ARC is a bi-annual paper competition, and its objective is to encourage faculty and students to conduct rigorous applied research that is relevant and innovative.
