Jan Fransoo is awarded NWO funding for new research line on nanostores in megacities

Professor Jan Fransoo (Industrial Engineering) has received a grant of 250,000 euros from the Netherlands Science Foundation NWO for a project he will conduct with colleagues at Tsinghua University (China) on retail distribution to very small stores in very large cities. It is estimated about 50 million stores serve billions of consumers in emerging markets. Reaching out to those stores in terms channel management and distribution operations, is one of the main new supply chain challenges that affect the performance of consumer goods companies, the congestion in these cities, and the affordability of products to low-income consumers. Extension of Chair Funding of Professor De Langen

The Province of Noord-Brabant has decided to extend the funding for the chair of Professor de Langen (part-time full professor in the OPAC group) by four years. The funding is sufficient to fund the professor, a full time PhD student, and a part-time postdoc. The research of professor De Langen concerns the policy impacts and the impact of policies on cargo transport. In the past years, he has worked with PhD student Frank van den Heuvel and Asst Professor Karel van Donselaar on the positive effects of clustering logistics operations into logistics parks.
