New consortium project in the chemical supply chain

Jan Fransoo started a new consortium project on horizontal collaboration in the chemical supply chain. members SABIC and Dow take a prominent role in the project, along with Shell Chemicals, Den Hartogh Logistics, and Cargogator. The objective of the project is to reduce transportation movement by virtually combining inventories, by better planning, and by bundling of flows. The project will run until early 2015. As part of the project, Master student David Brandstädter started conducting his thesis work at SABIC.

Grant for Retail distribution to nanostores in megacities

For the new research initiative on retail distribution to nanostores in megacities, Jan Fransoo received a substantial grant from the Netherlands Science Foundation NWO. As part of the project, a new PhD student will start in June. The project is conducted in close collaboration with Dr Lei Zhao of Tsinghua University in Beijing. As part of the overall field work for the project, Master student Sidney Plasman is conducting his thesis project at Procter & Gamble’s Innovation Center in Brussels. The focus of his work in the Indian nanostore channel.

NWO-subsidie voor Eindhovense onderzoeker

Prof.dr.ir. Geert –Jan van Houtum van de faculteit Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences krijgt van NWO een TOP subsidie van bijna acht ton. Met dat geld gaat hij onderzoek doen naar het verbeteren van logistieke systemen en optimaal gebruik van dure machines en vervoersmiddelen.

De toegekende subsidie maakt deel van het zogeheten MaGW programma (Gebiedsbestuur Maatschappij- en Gedragswetenschappen) van NWO. Dat is gericht op de topsectoren logistiek en creatieve industrie en focust zich ook op de sociale infrastructuur agenda.
