Dr. Lisa Maillart
OR applications in maintenance optimization, healthcare and the interface thereof: Recent work and future directions
This talk provides an overview of Dr. Maillart’s recent work and future interests in maintenance optimization, healthcare and the interface of the two. More specifically, using Markov decision processes, renewal theory and math programming, we consider optimization applications in many settings including the planning of imperfectly timed maintenance actions; the timing of life-depleting maintenance actions; maintaining a partially observed component and its deteriorating sensor; open-vial-waste-minimizing administration policies for vaccines manufactured in multi-dose vials; abandon/extract decisions for failed cardiac leads; pareto-efficient health reporting frequencies for patients awaiting liver transplantation in the US; and the optimal processing of human donor milk. Ideas for future work in these and related areas will also be offered.
Lisa Maillart is currently visiting TU/e on sabbatical from her position as Professor (effective September 2017) and Co-Director of the Stochastic Modeling, Analysis and Control (SMAC) Laboratory in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to joining the faculty at Pitt, she served on the faculty of the Department of Operations in the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University. She received her M.S. and B.S. in industrial and systems engineering from Virginia Tech, and her Ph.D. in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan. Her primary research interest is in sequential decision making under uncertainty, with applications in medical decision-making, health care operations, healthcare policy and maintenance optimization. She is a member of INFORMS, SMDM and IIE, and was recently named a Fulbright U.S. Scholar.
Location: TU/e, Building 62, Paviljoen F9. Feel free to join, if you are interested!
